The extensive re-modelling of a mid-18th century former pair of keepers’ cottages in the South Downs National Park.  We drew upon the local distinctiveness and vernacular character of the area to substantially enlarge and reconfigure the property without overwhelming or diluting the special quality of the host building.  A contemporary structural glass enclosure forms a covered courtyard between building elements to connect principal spaces, whilst allowing the rich palette of brick & flint, weathered oak and clay peg tiles to be appreciated from within.  The gardens were re-landscaped, stabling constructed and a private water supply borehole installed as part of the building contract. Exquisite interiors were skilfully created by Caroline Holdaway of Caroline Holdaway Design Ltd with whom we collaborate, to deliver a unique project.
